Water birth provides more than the gift of a gentle birth for you and your baby!
Blessed Beginnings provides the use of an inflatable birth tub with padded sidewalls and floor. In addition to providing this option for her laboring mothers, Susan shares her expertise in waterbirths and holds a credential in the “intrapartum use of warm water immersion during labor including water birth” through Waterbirth International www.waterbirth.org.
According to Waterbirth International these are the Benefits of a Waterbirth:
- Typically stating they would consider giving birth in water again; some even stating they would never give birth any other way!
- Voices get softer, the mother stays calmer and everyone becomes less stressed.
- No one has to help the mother get into a new position. She moves as her body and the position of the baby dictate. Movement helps open the pelvis, allowing the baby to descend.
- This allows her body to produce the pain inhibitors-endorphins-that complement labor. Noradrenaline and catecholamines, the hormones that are released during stress, actually raise the blood pressure and can inhibit or slow labor. A laboring woman who is able to relax physically, is able to relax mentally as well. Many women, midwives, and doctors acknowledge the analgesic effect of water. Thousands of these mothers state they would never be able to consider laboring without water again.
Sue is a wonderful midwife! She has so much experience which is comforting because you know she knows when things are going smoothly and when a transfer is necessary. I trusted her completely and that helped to establish a peaceful setting for my birth. I needed that peace and Sue’s confidence in the process during my 21 hours of labor and 3+ hours of pushing!
Had I been in a hospital I would have had a c-section and I would have been told that my body was not capable of birthing such a large baby. But with Sue there to oversee and make sure we were all healthy and safe I had my big baby at home naturally. Sue’s faith in my body’s ability and her wealth of knowledge and experience allowed me to be calm and to labor without the tension and frantic pace found in a hospital.I would recommend her to anyone wanting a peaceful home birth and I hope to have her present with us for any future little ones that may come :)
Sue attended all three of my home births, after I had four hospital births. I really can’t say enough about how amazing and wonderful midwifery care is, and Sue in particular is just awesome. Knowledgeable, supportive, down to earth, warm, funny – I really love her and am so grateful for the beautiful memories I have of the care I received from her during my last three pregnancies, births, and postpartum. I felt like I had a dear friend caring for me, and my whole family fell in love with her. Seriously, as good as it gets.
